Research Associate/Research Analyst – Electric Mobility, Energy Transition, Battery Circularity

The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is looking for a motivated individual interested in conducting policy-relevant research on clean mobility, energy transition and battery circularity. Candidates with relevant qualifications (see below) and a keen interest in policy research may apply.

The candidate will be part of a meritocratic organisation, which aims in shaping policy discourse through independent and credible research. The selected candidate will have the unique opportunity to work with some of the leading minds in the given research space.

Eligibility

  • Having advanced academic degree (Master’s or PhD) in Electrical, Mechanical, Power Electronics, or other relevant streams is essential. Degree (Master’s or PhD) in Economics with working experience related to electric mobility, power system, and/or circular economy will also be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant professional experience, ideally with knowledge-driven organisations like thinktanks, academia, in policy-related consulting, or policy-relevant research in industry (not the typical market research) is required. Relaxation of the work experience requirement may be considered for a candidate with PhD degree in relevant domain.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, preferably demonstrated in relevant and recent publications (blogs, articles and other types of grey literature do not qualify), are essential.
  • Experience in conducting data-driven analysis using Excel Macros, Python, or similar analytical platforms to derive policy-relevant insights is required.
  • Quality experience in undertaking policy research on electric mobility, energy transition and/ or circular economy (recycling) with fundamental understanding of the electricity distribution system, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, renewable energy integration, stationary battery energy storage system, etc. is desired.
  • Ability to work autonomously, collaborate with colleagues across domains and timely delivery of quality research outputs will be important.
  • Effective communication and strong interpersonal skills are expected.
  • Base location: New Delhi.
  • Willingness to travel outside National Capital Region is required.

Key Responsibilities

The researcher’s responsibilities span the following threads of effort:

  • Undertaking specific research and analysis of techno-economic nature in domains like electric mobility and its interplay with the grid, circular economy (recycling), energy storage, etc. under the broader theme of energy transition.
  • Tracking closely the developments in the energy and mobility space, both in India and globally.
  • Contributing to research outputs (working papers, discussion papers, technical papers, PowerPoint presentations, research blogs, op-eds, etc.).
  • Engaging with various stakeholders including the government, the industry, and the civil society.
  • Supporting dissemination and outreach initiatives.
