Utkarsh Patel

Visiting Associate Fellow

Utkarsh Patel is Visiting Associate Fellow (Climate Change and Energy Transition) at CSEP, and Climate Fellow (2022-23) at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs.

Utkarsh’s area of research is climate change policy in developing countries, particularly India, and the related issue of climate finance. He works on integrated assessment modelling and is interested in studying the role of deep decarbonisation technologies like green hydrogen in climate change mitigation.

He was previously associated with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, New Delhi, where he worked with Dr Isher Judge Ahluwalia on issues of urbanisation and sustainable development in India. He contributed to studies on solid waste management, urban water supply, and municipal finances.

He is also a founding member of GreenEarthAnalytics GmbH (Germany), and a consultant at the Global Institute on Innovation Districts (US). He holds master’s degrees in economics and energy regulation from Madras School of Economics (Chennai), and Technical University Berlin, respectively.
