Responsible Development of Minor Minerals in Rajasthan

The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) and the Consumer Unity Trust Society (CUTS) hosted a state-level roundtable on “Responsible Development of Minor Minerals in Rajasthan” in Udaipur, Rajasthan on January 9, 2026.
The Welcome Address was delivered by Rajesh Chadha, Senior Fellow, CSEP, who joined the event online. Opening remarks were made by Amrat Singh, Director, CUTS, followed by context-setting remarks from Karthik Bansal, Research Associate, CSEP. The sessions were moderated by Tanima Pal, Research Associate, CSEP, and K. Prahalad, Research Analyst, CSEP.

Presentations were made by ARAVALI and the Mine Labour Protection Campaign (MLPC), highlighting key issues affecting the minor minerals sector. The roundtable was attended by officials from the labour department, the State Pollution Control Board, and the District Industries Centre, as well as senior representatives from organisations such as the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Labour union members, civil society organisations, community leaders, and activists from Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, and Rajsamand districts also participated in the discussions.

The minor minerals sector is not only economically significant but also a major source of employment across several districts in Rajasthan. Its highly competitive nature, with a large number of participating industries, has contributed to rapid growth—alongside emerging regulatory and compliance challenges. The experiences, challenges, and insights shared by stakeholders at the roundtable will be critical in shaping actionable strategies to improve mining and processing standards in the sector.
