Smita Brunnermeier

Non-Resident Fellow

    Smita Brunnermeier is the Executive Director of Undergraduate Studies in Economics and a Senior Lecturer of Economics and of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. She is also affiliated with CSEP, New Delhi as a Non-Resident Fellow in the Energy, Natural Resources and Sustainability domain.

    At Princeton since 1999, she has taught inter-disciplinary courses and advised over two hundred research projects on environmental, energy and natural resource economics and on sustainable development, bringing together lessons learned from economics, history, politics, and science. Her research has analysed the drivers of pollution reduction and green energy innovation, industry location decisions, corporate social responsibility, wetland conservation, and the value of pollution information disclosure. Previously, as a research consultant to the US EPA, she has participated in the evaluation and passage of regulations under the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Toxic Substance Control Act.

    Dr Brunnermeier received her PhD in Economics from Vanderbilt University in 1998 and dual Masters in Economics and Management Science degrees from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India in 1992.
