Utkarsh Patel

Fellow

Utkarsh Patel is Fellow at CSEP.

He is also Visiting Fellow at Grantham Research Institute, London School of Economics (UK), Visiting Scientist at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany, and 2022-23 Yale Emerging Climate Leader.

As a climate science and policy researcher, he uses integrated energy-economy-climate models to evaluate least-cost mitigation pathways and the role of deep decarbonisation technologies, such as green hydrogen and carbon capture and storage, in the energy transition. His research interests include climate policy for developing countries, particularly India, macroeconomic implications of climate change, and international climate finance.

Patel holds master’s degrees in economics from Madras School of Economics (Chennai) and in energy regulation from Technical University (TU) Berlin. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Natural Sciences from TU Berlin.
