The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is seeking to appoint a research consultant to be based in Hyderabad for a Study on Public Report on Secondary Education (PROSE) under its Growth, Finance, Health & Human Development Vertical.

PROSE is a multi-state study covering 8 states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Assam, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. The objective is to focus on 14- to 21-year-old youth in these states and understand their transition from education to skills to work and study the functioning of schools and training institutions. Field surveys across states will be conducted by a professional survey agency during September–December 2026 to produce State Reports and a National Public Report on Secondary Education.

The research consultant will work under the supervision of Ashwini Chhatre from ISB Hyderabad, the lead for Telangana state and Amarjeet Sinha and B. Sekhar from CSEP.

The position is currently for 8 months and will be based in Hyderabad or nearby.

It requires a motivated researcher who is:

  • Fluent in Telugu and English
  • Master’s degree (minimum) in a social science subject
  • Based in Hyderabad or nearby
  • Good writing skills

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in surveys and field work,
  • Qualitative research,
  • Knowledge of education and skilling sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Literature survey and background paper
  • Conduct stakeholder consultations (education officers in some state/districts/blocks)
  • Assist in training the survey team
  • Attend debriefing workshops of the survey team
  • ITI qualitative survey and analysis of data
  • Document qualitative data and analyse
  • State draft report
