Prasad Ananthakrishnan
Prasad Ananthakrishnan is an expert in macro-financial policies, macroprudential frameworks, and climate finance, with a career spanning over four decades at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Most recently, as the IMF’s Chief of Climate Finance Policy, he represented the institution in key global forums, including the G20, the Network for Greening the Financial System, COP, and the UN General Assembly. His expertise has been pivotal in scaling up climate finance and establishing blended finance vehicles across several countries in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.
During his tenure at the IMF, Prasad led several Financial Sector Assessment Programs for advanced and emerging market economies, alongside surveillance, lending, and technical assistance missions. He also served as Advisor to the Executive Director for India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka from 2004 to 2007. Previously, at the RBI, he held various senior roles overseeing monetary operations, exchange rate management, and domestic debt policy.
He holds a PhD and a Master of Commerce from the University of Bombay, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Pittsburgh. He has published extensively on financial sector and climate issues and authored The Macroeconomics of the Arab States of the Gulf, published by Oxford University Press.
