In the ninth episode of Mining Matters, ‘From Extraction to Inclusive Development: Resilient Mineral Value Chains’, Florence Drummond, Executive Director, Development Partner Institute (DPI), speaks with K Prahalad, Research Analyst, CSEP. The discussion centred around three broad themes: a) reimagining mining companies as long-term development partners rather than solely extractive enterprises; b) building trust and meaningful inclusion among companies, governments and communities; and c) strengthening the institutional and evidentiary foundations of resilient mineral value chains. Drawing on her experience, Florence emphasised the importance of partnerships, shared vision and institutional cohesion in building durable relationships between stakeholders. The discussion also highlighted the role of credible, irrefutable documentation and data, alongside greater global visibility of responsible mining practices, in strengthening transparency, accountability and investor confidence. Collectively, these measures can help create stronger social and institutional foundations for mining projects while contributing to the broader de-risking of mineral investment.
